Over the past several years, WMAA members has quietly supported countless international students, new migrants, travellers, and multicultural families in Western Australia who found themselves in moments of crisis. Below is a selection of real cases that reflect our commitment to compassion, safety, and dignity for the multicultural community.

Practical Assistance

A newly arrived student encountered unexpected accommodation problems. Our team member assisted in resolving the issue and ensuring the student secured safe housing.

A business visitor suffered a serious fall resulting in head injury. Our team member provided immediate help and supported access to medical care.

A family overseas contacted our representative after being unable to reach their child studying in Australia. Through coordination and outreach, the student was successfully located.

A traveller who had been robbed and left without money or belongings sought urgent assistance. Our team member helped make contact with family, accompanied the traveller to file a police report, arranged temporary accommodation, and continued providing support until a replacement passport was issued and the traveller could return home.
Support During a Time of Crisis

An international student was involved in a serious car accident and required urgent medical attention. Our team member went to the hospital to provide support, including contacting the student’s family overseas, communicating with medical staff, assisting with translation, and offering humanitarian assistance during a very distressing time.​​

When a visitor to Australia passed away in a road incident, our team member assisted the family by coordinating communication, explaining funeral options, and providing guidance through a very difficult period. ​

Following the sudden passing of a young person in eastern Australia, our team member helped the family with necessary documentation and provided information about funeral arrangements and related processes.



Fraud Prevention and Safety Education
University Safety & Anti-Fraud Workshops

At the invitation of community partners and universities, our team member delivered free safety and anti-fraud seminars at Curtin University and the University of Western Australia, helping new students understand common scams, safety risks, and available support.
​Preventing a Fraud Loss

A student targeted by telecommunications scammers was prepared to transfer money due to false threats. Our team member identified the scam, explained the situation, and successfully prevented the financial loss.

Assist in Community Public Welfare Activities

Our team participated in and supported community road safety seminars.

We also helped an elderly community member by assisting with arrangements after the loss of a family member.
Mental Health Support
A student became extremely anxious after experiencing banking issues and believing they were being monitored. Our team member brought the student to a safe place, helped obtain a new SIM card, provided emergency funds, and arranged a flight home. After arriving in Sydney, the student was involved in a serious accident. Our team member contacted the family, assisted them in travelling to Australia, and provided guidance on hospital processes and insurance matters.
This case highlights the mental-health vulnerabilities that international students may face.​
